Burgess Hill u12s 99-4 beat Poynings u12s 49-5
Scorecard

The u12s recorded a comfortable win over a light on numbers Poynings at St Johns Park.

Poynings arrived with 8 players and having won the toss, opted to field first, and although they had a late arrival to make 9, they struggled to tie down the scoring. Conor Ward and Alfie Lees faced up to some wayward bowling early on, as the extras number racked up fast – and the early wickets smacked of frustration as Conor was run out and Alfie and Aidan Baker both also fell to cross-batted shots. Max Cassar making his debut, came in and batted aggressively as the quality of the bowling improved and scored a lively 13 before being run out by a terrific direct hit, and then Ryan Goss took over as the chief run scorer, retiring on 25 after an excellent and well controlled innings. We probably should have taken the score past 100 as we failed to connect at the end, however to finish on 99 from the 16 overs was still a creditable score, though 43 extras certainly helped.

In reply, our bowling was fantastic. Poynings’ batting lacked power, but certainly we gave them very little to hit. Probing spells from Alfie (0-11 from 3) and Conor (0-3 from 3) set the tone, and then Max showed his potential for the team also, with 2 terrific overs with a wicket to show for them to take 1-9. Wickets and tight bowling also came from Nathan Ward (1-6) and Ollie Bennett (1-0) and Glenn MacDougall took the last wicket to fall to finish with 1-6 from his 2 overs. Combined with sharp fielding on the whole, and two excellent running/diving catches from Conor, we kept them in check throughout and they could only finish on 49 to allow a comfortable win.
