Youth winter nets commence on Sunday 28th January at Hurst College from 2.00 pm until 5.00 pm. They will continue through to Sunday April 8th. We are yet to be notified by the college of the dates that the Sports Hall is to be used for exams and will not therefore be available for our use. It is probable that those dates will be the 4th and 18th February but we will notify everybody as soon as we know. There will no nets on Sunday 1st April as that day is Easter Sunday. In total there are expected to be 8 weeks of coaching and we have booked 4 lanes of nets which should enables us to make full use of the sports hall for specific wicket keeper coaching, fielding and catching practice. There will be no separate charge for attending these nets or coaching sessions as the cost is covered by the annual membership fee. Membership fees are due on the 1st April and remain at the same levels as last year; £60 for boys and £30 for girls, together with the sibling discounts.
U11s – U15s (this coming seasons age groups)
For the Sunday afternoon sessions we are proposing the following times and lane net allocations for the boys and girls, based on their age groups for this coming season. These, we believe, use the optimum allocation of time and coaching resources whilst balancing out the numbers of youngsters in each age group. The timetable for youth sessions by age group is below.
2.00 pm – 3.00 pm | 3.00 pm – 4.00 pm | 4.00 pm – 5.00 pm | |||
Lane 1 & 2 | Lane 3 & 4 | Lane 1 & 2 | Lane 3 & 4 | Lane 1 & 2 | Lane 3 & 4 |
U11 Boys | U12 Boys | U13 Boys | U14 Boys | U13 Girls | U15 Girls |
Any U10 boys who are considered by their manager and their parents to be competent and safe to play hard ball cricket will be invited to attend the U11 session from 2.00 – 3.00 pm. Those older girls who already play Ladies cricket have the option to attend the evening Ladies net sessions instead of, or as well as, the afternoon one.
U10s and Younger (this seasons age groups), U11 girls
For those boys who are U10 and younger this coming season, and those girls who are U11, we have, we are very pleased to say, managed to secure the larger Oakmeeds Sports Hall on Tuesday evenings from 6.00 – 7.30 pm for softball practice and coaching. These sessions will be again be run by Alan Perrin the Sussex CCC coach and are guaranteed to be great fun. All of our ‘All Stars’ are also invited to join these sessions. They commence on Tuesday the 6th Feb and continue every week up to and including the 3rd April. We are again coaching in Burgess Hill primary schools in late January and early February and we will be inviting those children attending their school sessions to come along to these evenings.
Adult, Ladies, U16s & U15s (this seasons age groups) Adult nets commence on Sunday evenings between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm at Hurst College commencing on the 28th January and we have booked four lanes this year. We anticipate that these will be allocated as lanes 1,2 & 3 for Adult and Youth players and lane 4 for our Ladies. If anybody has any questions please call Geoff on 07860 909237 or email us.
VOLUNTEERS
In order for the club to continue to offer cricket coaching and matches to the numbers of youngsters that we do, we need more help from parents, players, relatives and friends. We need at least 3 new Cricket Managers for our Youth teams next season. Knowledge of cricket for these important roles is not necessary as they are primarily administrative roles. Our coaches provide the cricketing input but we need volunteers to arrange teams, scorers, umpires and teas etc. The club will lay on simple basic courses to explain to those volunteering how to umpire and score for junior matches. Your club needs you!! Thank you in advance!!
In the meantime may we wish you and your families a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
