The U13’s put up a spirited effort against Ansty in their first match in Division 2 on a chilly Thursday evening.
Burgess Hill’s captain Freddie Cobham won the toss and put Ansty into bat. The visitors got off to a great start with Owen Larder taking a wicket in the first over. Ansty struggled to score from the bat and were fortunate to score a number of byes from deliveries which despite the best efforts of Billy Reid caught the back of the artificial strip and flew away to the boundary.
Burgess Hill took a 2nd wicket in the 11th over thanks to a great wicket maiden by Kyle Jones. Unfortunately the extras started to pile up. Aaron Goldsmith bowled well to take a 3rd wicket for the team in the 14th over but the visitors could not stop Ansty getting over the 100 run mark and they finished on 104-3.
Burgess Hill’s opening pair of Kyle Jones and Alfie Lees headed to the crease after tea keen to prevent an early wicket. They saw off the home teams opening bowling attack well but the Ansty bowlers struck in the 5th over dismissing Kyle for 2. Alfie lasted until the 10th over before being dismissed for 3. In the meantime Owen Larder got into his stride and scored an impressive 29 runs including 6 boundaries. Billy Reid chipped in with 2 before being caught. Freddie Cobham came to the crease and quickly added 9 runs including one boundary before being bowled.
Burgess Hill were in with a shout but unfortunately the runs dried up and they finished on 78-7. This included 45 off the bat compared to Ansty’s 32 off the bat! Despite the defeat there were plenty of positives to come out of the match.
