Burgess Hill v Lewes Priory (Away) – Monday 15 May
Burgess Hill U12’s got back to winning ways with a hard fought victory over Lewes Priory on Monday evening in glorious spring time conditions.
The home team won the toss and decided to bat. They made a steady start scoring 18 runs from the first 4 overs, however in the 5th over Burgess Hill’s bowling attack struck with a wicket for Owen Larder dismissing Lewes Priory’s opener LBW. Tight bowling and energetic fielding kept the home team’s total down and the score was 45-1 at the 10 over mark.
In the 13th over a second wicket fell thanks to sharp fielding from Kyle Jones with the throw and Tommy Barnes with the run out. At 59-2 the home team were in trouble but threw everything at the last 3 overs, losing two more wickets (2 more for Owen, 1 bowled and 1 caught by Ryan Goss) but scoring 26 more runs to finish on 84-4. Bowling highlights included 3-15 for Owen and 11 dots out of 12 balls bowled for Freddie.
The visitors took to the field with a target of 85. It was achievable but started to look doubtful after a shaky start with Alfie Lees dismissed for 1 in the 3rd over and Freddie and Owen both falling in the 4th over for 2 runs. At 12-3 after 4 overs the target looked a long way off.
Captain Tommy Barnes was joined in the middle by Lewis Mcintyre and the two of them made a steady start to their partnership pushing the score to 36 after 8 overs. It was in the 9th over however that the innings came alive with a thumping 6 by Lewis. Tommy followed suit with a boundary in the 10th over and Burgess Hill reached 64-3 after 11 overs. Tommy was bowled in 12th over finishing with a great captains innings of 22 runs including 4 fours.
Lewis was joined by Aidan Baker in the middle and retired on 25 runs with one last boundary. An excellent effort by Lewis included 4 fours and 1 six. Victory looked in sight as Aidan was joined by Ryan. Aidan hit a boundary and Ryan got a single before being bowled for 1. Billy Reid came in to join Aidan in the 14th over with Burgess Hill needing 6 more for victory. This was sealed with one last four courtesy of Billy. Aidan finished on 6 runs and Billy 4 not out completing the innings for the visitors with 88-5 and a victory by 5 wickets.
A great team performance, excellent energy in the field, accurate bowling, positive batting and great encouragement of each other throughout.
