Burgess Hill U11s 296-2 beat Hurstpierpoint U11s 250-3 by 46 runsĀ
The lads continued their good league form with a resounding victory at Hurst, with an excellent team performance built on a tight and accurate bowling display.
This week’s captain, Glenn MacDougall, won the toss and asked the hosts to bat. Toby Spooner & Tom Broughton kicked off things with their typically tight lines, but weren’t as miserly as the next pair, Billy Fuller and Ewan Edwards, who went for only 7 runs from their combined 4 over spell; Billy bowling quickly and accurately again, and Ewan was super tight. Jack MacDonald & Aaron Goldsmith maintain the pressure – and although wickets weren’t coming at this stage – Hurst were making sow progress. Glenn bowled 2 maidens, and took the first wicket of the innings in his second over to end with 1-0, and Louis Harcourt was also racking up the dot-balls. It was in the last pair, that the wicket column got a little more action, with Tom Broughton taking a stunning catch off the bowling of Benji Turner (1-5), and Jack hitting the stumps from distance to effect a run out with the second last ball, to restrict Hurst to 250.
The reply got off to a flier. Toby and Billy hit 17 off the opening over and their 4 overs brought us 34 runs, with Toby hitting 14 unbeaten, and Billy 12 unbeaten. The run scoring slowed a little in the next 2 pairs, but with only one wicket lost in that period, we were at 256 at 12 overs, and in pole position. Henry Cobham hit a couple of boundaries in his 13 unbeaten, and with the help of a few wides we were racing away from their total with 286 after 16. The last pair never entirely got going and although Louis was unlucky to lose only our second wicket to a a remarkable catch, we were comfortable winners, ending on 296.
Brilliant team performance. Robbie was in charge today, and he commented again on the great team spirit and energy; something which we are seeing week after week, win or lose. As ever, a great bunch of fast-improving lads who love their cricket.
