A sultry morning at St Johns Park saw captain for the day Oli O’Reardon lose the toss and the boys were put in to bat. The boys batted well with top (net) scorers being Eddie Grass with 11 runs, Jake Armstrong with 10 and George Kaye, Hayden Wickwar and Jacob Franklin all with 9 runs each. What really stood out today was the excellent running between the wickets, this was great to see.
At the end of the 20 overs, the boys had set Poynings a very challenging total of 296 to win.
Taking to the field all of the bowlers did a great job in restricting the Poynings run chase. In the 20 overs only 9 extras were delivered which is terrific. The wickets came with 2 run-outs from Harry Hammond’s bowling and a clean bowled by George Kaye followed by a sublime final 4 overs bowled by Hayden Wickwar (2 wickets for 0 runs) and Jake Armstrong (1 wicket for 0 runs).
The overall improvement in the team is great to see, and a special mention for Charlie Vangelov who showed a great batting technique followed by some really accurate bowling.
In summary a confident performance resulting in a comfortable win taking the results this season to played 8, won 5 & lost 3
